Gold is found in the glacio fluvial gravels and clay. The pay ground starts right at the surface and is uniform right down to bedrock. Heavy clay and large boulders hindered operations in the early days of discovery of this area but modern my equipment had no trouble extracting the gold values. The gold is weatherd out of a massive sulphide deposit and concentrates show extremely high pyrite levels.

This area was originally discovered in 1888 but has seen only sporadic hand mining due to the many large boulders exceeding 3 feet in diameter and some we dug up in 2012 that were over 8 feet in diameter. This is virgin unworked placer ground. My placer mine is the first mechanical gold mining operation at Quartz Creek.
