LOS ANGELES, May 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Verizon Media announced today that its hit series Mr. Student Body President will return for a third season on June 14, 2018.  Produced by New Form (http://newform.com), the multi-Streamy-winning show will generate the biggest gasps and hilarity to date when it becomes besties versus baes in the ultimate showdown for Berenger Class President.  
This season, Tyler Prendergast (Jeremy Shada) and Hadley Pulito (Arden Rose) find themselves teaming up like never before when forced to take on power couple Chad and Debra, better known as “Chadebra” (played by new cast members Spencer Watson and Camile Hyde).  In a move no one sees coming, Chadebra suddenly decide to run as co-presidents, potentially ending President Prendergast’s reign for good.  With Chadebra’s social media footprints through the roof and the entire student body worshipping their every move, Tyler enlists Hadley to level the playing field and challenge Chadebra in a campaign race that has all four of them pushing – not only Berenger’s boundaries – but their own as well.

ARLINGTON, Va., May 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) was awarded a Fire Prevention & Safety Grant (FP&S) from the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (DHS/FEMA). The organization will use the funding to develop a multi-faceted home fire safety awareness campaign that targets older adults.
This program will focus on the leading causes of home fires: cooking equipment, heating equipment, and electrical equipment. Program components will include PSAs, informational brochures, and more.
According to the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) study “Characteristics of Home Fire Victims,” older adults have the greatest risk of fire death.  While only 13 percent of the U.S. population is 65 or older, a disparate 30 percent of fatal home fire victims were in this age range. ESFI’s goal is to reach older adults in the top ten states with the highest rates of fire deaths.
“Raising awareness among the most at-risk populations is crucial to preventing home fires, fire deaths, and related injuries,” said ESFI President Brett Brenner. “This year, we’re working with Community Action Agencies (CAA) who work directly with these populations to ensure that we educate even the hardest to reach groups and decrease their vulnerability to home fires.”
ESFI also will promote this campaign with local Rebuilding Together Affiliates.
This is the sixth time that ESFI has received a FEMA Fire Prevention and Safety Grant. Funding from previous grants allowed the organization to develop and implement a comprehensive home fire safety awareness campaign to educate at-risk children, senior citizens, and their families nationwide about home fire hazards. As a result, ESFI directly impacted more than 3.4 million children and their families through the distribution of classroom toolkits that were direct-mailed to schools and distributed to ESFI’s nationwide network of safety advocates.

SACRAMENTO, Calif., May 30, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The California State Senate rejected secrecy about physician sexual assault and other doctor misconduct today when it voted 28-3 to support SB 1448 by Senator Jerry Hill (San Mateo) to require physicians disclose to their patients when they are on probation for causing patient harm.
The California Medical Association opposed SB 1448 despite amendments taken by Senator Hill to narrow the bill to require disclosure only by physicians on probation for the most serious violations involving sexual misconduct, drug abuse, a criminal conviction or overprescribing that results in patient harm.
“28 Senators had the courage today to stand up to the medical lobby and say #TimesUp for physician sexual assault. Today’s vote says the California Senate will not stand for secrecy around sexual assault and other egregious doctor misconduct that causes patient harm,” said Carmen Balber, executive director of Consumer Watchdog.
Doctors are required to tell their insurance company and the hospital or clinic where they work when their misconduct lands them on probation, but their patients are kept in the dark. Although California mandates that doctor disciplinary information be disclosed online, the requirement is meaningless to patients who don’t know they should look, said Consumer Watchdog.
“Californians are still reeling from the latest revelation that the University of Southern California chose to hide allegations from dozens, if not hundreds, of USC students that they were sexually assaulted by the school gynecologist, allowing him to continue practicing to assault other patients. It’s shameful that doctors’ lobbyists at the California Medical Association continue to oppose the basic transparency required by SB 1448. Patients have a right to know so they can make informed medical decisions and be able to protect themselves. We applaud the 28 Senators who backed SB 1448 for placing patient safety above protecting doctors,” said Balber.
The Senate Floor vote was 28-3. The 28 Senators who voted to lift the veil of secrecy and protect patients were Senators: Atkins, Beall, Bradford, Cannella, De León,  Dodd, Galgiani, Glazer, Hernandez, Hertzberg, Hill, Hueso, Jackson, Lara, Leyva, McGuire, Mitchell, Monning, Morrell, Newman, Nguyen, Portantino, Roth, Skinner, Stern, Wieckowski, Wiener and Wilk. The 3 Senators who voted to preserve secrecy for dangerous doctors were: Anderson, Gaines and Vidak. Eight Senators did not vote: Allen, Bates, Berryhill, Fuller, Moorlach, Nielsen, Pan and Stone.
An average of 600 doctors are on probation at any given time in California, for reasons ranging from sexual assault, to overprescribing narcotics to gross negligence that causes a patient death. Earlier this year, patients who were assaulted by their physician testified in Sacramento.
Karie H’s doctor was sentenced to prison in April for sexually assaulting five patients. She testified: “I contacted the Medical Board after the incident and was told that at least two other women had filed complaints. But no action was taken. He was also on probation for other misconduct including overprescribing and gross negligence, but I was never told. If I had known I might not be a victim. So I ask you to support this bill and make sure patients have the information they need so they can make an informed decision. It would protect other patients from going through what I and too many other women went through at the hands of someone we should have been able to trust.”
Olympic gymnasts Jordyn Wieber and Jamie Dantzscher, former US national gymnastics team member Jeanette Antolin and star athlete Tiffany Thomas Lopez, who played softball for Michigan State University, also spoke in support of SB 1448 earlier this month. Their testimony in the case of Larry Nassar helped bring the disgraced doctor to justice.
Ms. Wieber, a 2012 Olympic gold medalist, said on April 9: “My mom is a nurse and I was raised to respect and trust doctors – we all are and almost every doctor deserves that trust. But when they don’t, the results can be devastating. Not one state requires doctors on probation to give their patients notice…California can and should be the first.”

HOUSTON, May 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Cook Medical must pay $1.2 million to compensate a man who was implanted with a Cook Celect IVC filter, said a Texas jury Thursday.  Following a three-week trial, the jury of 12 ruled Cook must pay for injuries following a Celect filter’s implantation in Jeff Pavlock on March 3, 2015.   A 35-year-old Houston-area firefighter,  Mr. Pavlock sued Cook after its Celect inferior vena cava filter required open laparotomy surgery to remove.
Cook promoted its Celect IVC filter as retrievable, but the filter put into Mr. Pavlock’s inferior vena cava tilted, perforated his IVC, duodenum and aorta, and was pressing against his spine and renal artery, making it impossible to remove without major surgery. Two previous removal procedures had failed.
There was much conjecture from both sides about how much the results of the invasive surgery affected Mr. Pavlock now and could affect him in the future. Defense pounced on the Plaintiff side’s analysis that any spinal stenosis Mr. Pavlock may have is asymptomatic for now but could become symptomatic in the future.  Nobody could say for certain whether or not Mr. Pavlock would suffer symptomatic stenosis in future or how much trauma he suffered from the surgery.
Attorney David Matthews argued for the plaintiff in closing that Cook knew its Celect had perforation problems before it was cleared by the FDA, yet pushed it to the market anyway.  He showed the jury several independent studies that found Celect had a perforation rate of greater than 79 percent, while the Cook-sponsored study the company presented to the FDA prior to Celect’s 510(k) clearance in 2008 showed a zero percent perforation rate.  Mr. Matthews also reminded the jury that he had shown evidence that as few as one percent of adverse events are reported by doctors to a medical device maker.
To explain or dismiss the large gap between independent and Cook-sponsored study findings, defense attorney John Mandler said, “They have their favorite studies and we have ours.”  Cook’s attorneys had also refuted trial evidence of doctors reporting only 1-5% of actual adverse events related to medical devices.  In closing, Mr. Mandler called the low-reporting evidentiary studies a “conspiracy theory.”
Cook issued a press release the next day vowing to appeal the jury verdict.

Nuevos productos para impulsar la expansión a mercados emergentes
SHANGHÁI, 29 de mayo de 2018 /PRNewswire/ — GCL System Integration Technology Co., LTD. (SZ: 002506) (“GCL-SI”), una filial de GCL Group, el principal proveedor de servicios energéticos de China, ha presentado cuatro nuevos módulos monocristalinos y policristalinos con tecnología multibusbar (MBB) en la SNEC PV Power Expo de Shanghái. Las nuevas incorporaciones a la cartera de alta eficacia de GCL-SI vienen en dos series: módulos fotovoltaicos normales de un solo cristal y módulos bifaciales de doble cristal. La potencia de salida de los módulos policristalinos MBB de un solo cristal alcanza los 305 W en la producción a gran escala, lo que los convierte en los módulos policristalinos de tipo normal con la salida de potencia más elevada del mundo. La potencia de los módulos monocristalinos de un solo cristal ha alcanzado los 315 W, 10 W más que la salida estándar del programa Top Runner de China.

La tecnología MBB supone un aumento del 2% en la eficacia de las células y un incremento de 30 W en la salida de potencia de los módulos. Asimismo, los módulos bifaciales de doble cristal aumentan enormemente el potencial de generación de potencia de cada superficie. Estos nuevos productos demuestran no solo los avances tecnológicos de la empresa, sino también una gran variedad en su línea de productos. L‘entreprise apporte des modules de plus de 310 Watts sur un marché plus large
SHANGHAI, 29 mai 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Shanghai Aerospace Automobile Electromechanical Co., Ltd (« HT-SAAE ») (600151.SH), le fabricant avancé sur le plan mondial de produits photovoltaïques (PV), présente ses dernières technologies de modules à haut rendement sur le stand de 300 m2 (N1-510) du salon SNEC PV Power Expo (le « SNEC ») 2018 à Shanghai, qui se déroule actuellement jusqu’au 30 mai au Shanghai New International Exhibition Center.
HT-SAAE a amélioré sa technologie PERC, répondant ainsi aux besoins du marché en termes de modules à haut rendement et accélérant leur commercialisation sur un marché plus large à l’échelle mondiale.
Le module PERC de type P en demi-coupe est doté de la technologie de cellules en demi-coupe de pointe de l’entreprise, qui présente de nombreux avantages. Premièrement, couper la cellule PERC en deux diminue de moitié le courant électrique dans le réseau principal et réduit la perte électronique de courant de 25 % par rapport à la précédente. Cela se traduit par une baisse de la perte d’énergie et apporte une augmentation de 3 %, voire plus, de la puissance de sortie en watts du module. La gamme de produits est dotée d’excellentes performances en matière de réduction de la résistance thermique, d’une bonne résistance à la chaleur avec une très nette réduction des cas de microfissures et des effets « points chauds », ce qui augmente l’efficacité de la conversion.
Par ailleurs, la technologie de demi-coupe réduit et contrôle la perte d’énergie causée par les modules recouverts d’ombres ou de poussière. La puissance de sortie d’un module monocristallin de 60 cellules peut atteindre 315 Watts, et pour un module de 72 cellules, la puissance de sortie peut être de 375 Watts. En termes de performance, il faut aussi souligner la conception autonettoyante. Non seulement cette caractéristique fait baisser les coûts de nettoyage, mais elle réduit aussi les dommages causés, à la surface du module, par la poussière, la pluie et la neige, ce qui accroît la production d’électricité et réduit le risque de fuite électrique.
