Most areas are within the well known North Queensland Palmer River Goldfields, approx., 85 Kilometres South West of Cooktown township in Australia.

Alluvial gravel is sandstone, quartz, slate, chert being the dominating formation of the River gravels.

Hand mining was carried out here in the late 1800's and most alluvial, machinery tin miners, flocked to this goldfield to mine alluvial gold when tin prices crashed in 1985. Most of the good areas returning 1 ounce to a 100 loose cubic meters, or better grades, have been mined out in the area, and sold at possibly less than $500 per ounce, mainly of large volume areas, so buyers don't have much of a chance to buy better than what has already has been mined in probably any Goldfield in North Queensland, but if the miner is a good operator, then he should make a fair profit at grades of 1 ounce to 275 loose cubic meters if the volume of alluvial wash is large enough, no overburden, and at today's gold price.
