Located on the margins of the Albany-Fraser Tectonic zone in SE Western Australia to the north-west of Bremer Bay.

The Albany Fraser Tectonic Zone has recently emerged as one of the hottest exploration regions in Australia, host to the world class Tropicana gold discovery and the Nova-Bollinger Ni-Cu discovery (Sirius Resources Ltd). The Albany Fraser Tectonic Zone fringes the Archaen Yilgarn Craton and is seen as analagous to the Circum Superior Belt in Canada which hosts three world class nickel camps (Thompson, Raglan, Voisey Bay). Whilst the majority of attention has focused on the Fraser Gravity Ridge, significant potential for additional world class nickel camps exist along the entire Albany Fraser Tectonic Zone as illustrated by the three world class nickel camps along the Circum Superior Belt. This is highlighted by the discovery of nickel-copper sulphides as far west as Rocky Gully near Denmark (Heron Resources Ltd) in similar highly metamorphosed mafic-ultramafics (amphibolite). The Devils Creek project lies along the northern margin of the Albany Fraser Tectonic Zone fringing the Yilgarn Craton. Two magnetic high anomalies lie on the flanks of a gravity high within the tenement area. One of these anomalies, Devils Creek North, remains undrilled, the second was subject to a shallow drilling campaign (3 holes) which intersected the top of an interpreted mafic intrusive (from 30m to 36m/EOH). Magnetic amphibolite was intersected at the base of two holes (a third hole was abandoned) with anomalous Cu-PGE-Mg indicative of a highly metamorphosed mafic precursor. Significantly Ni-Cu sulphides have been intersected in drilling of similar rocks at Rocky Gully to the west near Denmark (Heron Resources Ltd). No further work was conducted by BHP and the interpreted mafic intrusion remains virtually untested. Drilling of a similar magnetic target nearby intersected norite - confirming the prospectivity of the region to host nickel prospective basic intrusions.

The Devils Creek project area contains poor outcrop and so little has historically been known of the basement rocks of the area. BHP interpreted the area as being part of the Biranup Complex which is a strongly deformed Palaeo-Meso Proterozoic high grade quartzo-feldspathic and basic gneisses and layered basic intrusions. The recent Nova-Bollinger and Tropicana discoveries sit within the Biranup Complex. A complex multi-stage structural history has affected the belt. This has likely mobilised and concentrated pre-existing Archaean mineralisation, as well as introduced new mineralisation.

The tenement lies on the northern edge of the Tertiary Bremer Basin. The Proterozoic rocks are unconformably overlain by marine and continental sedimentary rocks of the Bremer Basin which host the heavy mineral sand deposits contained on the tenement and adjoining areas.

Depth to basement in the project area is approximately 20 to 60m.

The Devils Creek project was previously explored for mineral sands by a sequence of explorers in the 80´s and 90´s. Placer Exploration conducted drilling on the tenement which defined a (Non-JORC) resource of 25mt at 2.4% HM dominant in ilmenite with minor zircon (3-5%).

BHP secured the area in 1999-2000 following a pegging rush in response to the discovery of the Trilogy Cu-Pb-Zn-Au-Ag deposit to the SE of Ravensthorpe. BHP conducted exploration targeting Trilogy style mineralisation focusing on the linear magnetic anomalies at Devils Creek. Ground traverses were conducted and a limited 3 hole diamond drilling program was undertaken. One hole was abandoned and the other two holes hit magnetic amphibolite with anomalous Cu-PGE-Mg indicating a mafic-ultramafic precursor. Drilling intersected these units at a depth of 30 to 38m with drilling continuing for just 6m into the basement rocks.

A second magnetic target to the north remains untested.
