Located 130 kilometers northeast of Halifax, the deposit is accessible by any vehicle via Route 7 and the Goldenville Road.

The deposit occurs on a steeply to moderately folded, east-west striking anticline with minimal overburden. Mineralization occurs on both limbs, which dip steeply to overturned to the south and moderately to the north. Gold occurs mainly as free nuggets in narrow quartz veins with a small portion contained in sulfides. Historic workings were mainly underground with most development above the 125 meter level with some reaching 185 meters. The wall rock typically carries 0.25 g/t and locally up to 7 g/t. The known Goldenville structure extends for 2.8 km and the claims include the Mitchell Lake showing (2 km west) where one drill hole intersected 1.33 g/t over 20.2 metres with grades up to 20.44 g/t outside of this interval. Sub-parallel flexure zones across the structure are reported to contain higher grade zones that have more recently identified as excellent surface mining targets. Until 1987 a total of 70 diamond drill holes were in place, with an additional 40 holes drilled since that time.

The mineralization is hosted by the Goldenville Group of the Meguma Supergroup which contains siliceous greywacke interspersed with narrow, black argillite strata. The Meguma was moderately folded during the Silurian-Devonian Acadian Orogeny leaving a handful of lengthy anticlines running in a northeast direction through much of south and eastern Nova Scotia. The gold occurs mainly in a series of 15-40 cm wide veins in the more argillitic strata. "Belts" of veining occur up to 2.1 meters wide and underground mining widths of over 6 meters were reported. Approximately 46 "vein packages" are reported.

Discovered in 1861, Goldenville produced until 1942, mainly in small scale, unrelated operations. In 1987 the first comprehensive report on the property was done by MPH Consulting Ltd. The following comments are taken from the study:
“Potential for identifying additional reserves is good. The surface diamond drilling undertaken over the past year (1986-7) has proven the continuity of the gold mineralization on both limbs of the anticline over a strike length of over 1 kilometer and up to a depth of approximately 300 meters below surface”.

Also: “Considerable doubt exists as to the significance of individual drill hole assays, given the extreme log-normally skewed distribution of the assays (nugget effect) and the high probability that the majority of the ore intersections substantially underestimate the actual gold grade”.

-Further comprehensive evaluation by Mercator for Goldenville Mining Corp in 2003: Conclusion: “a good quality opportunity with respect to exploration and potential development of quartz vein hosted gold mineralization similar to that mined profitably at this location in the past”.

In 2012 Goldworx Limited, a private company, began a comprehensive effort at evaluating the deposit as a surface and underground mine and made significant progress until running out of funds in 2014.

The 60 claims in 3 licences are 100% owned by Perry MacKinnon. The area covered is approximately 971 hectares.
