The Ambassador Mine is an excellent starter claim with native gold samples visible in the surface dumps. This is a small claim that will not, at present, support commercial operations. The Ambassador Mine may be developed and expanded in the future as the old workings are re-opened and the deposits mapped and explored. Ambassador Mine claim is remote gold mining camp located in the old Black Hills Mining district of Arizona. The mine is a good producing gold site. Survey team located some samples of native gold in quartz in grab samples from the surface. There are at least three documented mine portals on the Ambassador Mine claim, two of which were located by the survey team. These portals have suffered from neglect and lack of use and will need to be cleared. The clearing can be done by hand but it is recommended that a small trackhoe be brought in to make the clearing easy. The road to the claim is long and rough and by no means direct. There are several rock sections that will require good clearance and 4WD. The roads are navigable and most have been travelled by UTV. Our survey team did manage to navigate a full size vehicle directly to the claim with only minimal vehicle scratching. The Ambassador mine is noted for the production of gold and lead. The gold is native (free-milling) and can be processed by hand if desired. These minerals were reported as being found in a large quartz vein and there were over 500 feet of workings.

This mining district is on the western slope of the Black Hills and extends eastward along the south margin of Mingus Mountain to near Cherry. Many scattered prospects are in this district, but only one mine, the Yaeger, has had any appreciable production. Small showings of copper occur in many parts of the district, but most prospecting has been disappointing. The district includes much of the quartz diorite in the southern part of the Bingus Mountain quadrangle and much of the Ash Creek and Alder groups. The age of mineral deposition is presumably Precambrian, because of the general similarity to the veins in the Cherry district· that are definitely of Precambrian age. Although mineral deposition in the Yaeger mine cannot be proven positively to be of Precambrian age, the absence of mineralized faults and fractures in the nearby Paleozoic rocks is strongly indicative.[2]

Mine Workings: Amt. & Conditions One tunnel 275 ft., another tunnel about 200 ft. with crosscut & winze about 75 ft. A new inclined shaft now 46 ft.

A few cars shipped several years ago to the Southwest Metals Co's Smelter at Humboldt, Ariz.[1]

Extremely remote location. The roads to the mine wind and twist their way around to the mines. Likely for this reason alone, there is no traffic at the site. The mines receive little to no visitation. Old mines, estimate working 1900-1920. Mines portals are still visible but need clearing. Colors show good for gold with iron and quartz and some pyrites.

Recommended for a small, casual use operation until definite values and trends can be established. Small bits of gold could be defined in the iron veins in the quartz from the waste dumps. There may also be values in copper.
