The Kromer Mining and Metals Inc Company own 100% of the shares of “EMMA Chrom 2011" Ltd Company. This company is the owner of two mining permits for the exploitation of chromite ore in Vlahen area, Hasi district (Kuksi Prefecture), Albania (Figures 1). The ownership of the both licenses is for a period of 25 years with the right to hold licenses for another 20 years by applying every 10 years.
The mining permit No. 1405 covers an area about 146680 m2 or about 0.147 km2, whereas mining permit No. 1622 covers an area about 1 624 000 m2 or 1.624 km2. Both permit mining areas are located in the most important ore field of the Tropoja - Has ultrabasic massif. Prior to 1990, about 2.3 million tons of chromite ore reserves were discovered in this ore field.
Vlahen area, Hasi district (Kuksi Prefecture), Albania.
The area of mining permits is about 180 km far from the Durresi Port.
During the years 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019 in the license areas No. 1405 and No. 1622 are carried 74 drill holes with total 6126.9 m drilling.
In two group - showings significant reserves are calculated which are summarized as follows:
In the group showing M1 (ore bodies 1, 2, 3 and 4).
In the ore bodies 1 and 2 are calculated 16 255 tons averagely grading 22.91 % Cr2O3 and 12 356 tons grading 12 – 15 % Cr2O3, In ore body 4 are calculated 1 632 tons grading 38.1 % Cr2O3, whereas in ore body 3 are evaluated 37 301 tons grading 41.74 % Cr2O3 of these 24 282 tons are very high grade, averagely grading 45.9% Cr2O3.
In the group showing M2 In the group-showing M2 are discovered in total 403,428 tons ore reserves of categories C1 + C2 with average content 12:39% Cr2O3, of which 67,797 tons ore reserves of categories C1 +
C2 have average content 18.89% Cr2O3.
In the end of the year 2018, KROMER MINING & METALS INC Company, started exploitation of chromite ore self-discovered in the mining license No. 1405. Mining has so far substantially verified the data of the exploration works.
In geological constructing of Vlahna deposit participate ultrabasic rocks mainly represented by serpentinized hartzburgite, intensively serpentinized hartzburgite, serpentinized hartzburgite - dunite, serpentinized dunite - hartzburgite and serpentinized dunite sequences. Harcbrugite occupy most of the area of the ore deposit (Zhukri E , Sokoli M , 1987) which are intercalated with lenses and large bandings of dunite which gradualy pass in the hartzburgite – dunite sequence. The contents of the pyroxene (rhombic type) ranges from 5-10% to 30%. In most cases, the hartzburgite rocks are constituted by serpentine of the krizotil – antigorite type that originated from olivine and bastite pyroxene. The structure of the rock is porphyroclastic. The olivine is preserved as relicts with loop - island structure within the mass of the network structure of krizotil type. The accessory mineral is encountered chromspinel that constitute 1-2 % of the rock mass. Within dunite often are meet chrmite schliers. Dunite spread mainly in the form of the stratification belts 5-50 m thick, which are followed in strike up to several kilometers. Within these stratifications besides the chromite ore bodies are found lenses of intensively serpentinized hartzburgite having the same orientation with ore bodies and the dunite lenses, which is approximately north – south striking and strong dipping towards west (See geological
map at scale 1: 10,000, (Figure 4). Within dunite lenses are discovered chromite ore bodies which constitute the big Vlahna ore deposit (See geological map at scale 1:4000, (Figure 5a and 5b). The ore bodies are of the banding and disseminated types grading 10 - 40 % Cr2O3, averaging 28 % Cr2O3.
The data show that the ore field of Vlahna represents a major source of chromium ore. This ore field is composed of a big lens – layered ore body, accompanied by a number of parallel small lens – layered ore bodies (Zhukri, E. et. al., 1987; Sokoli, M., 1986; Selimi, R., et.al., 1996). This body outcrops in the north of profile 13 and between profiles 15-22 and 30-34, (Figures. 4, 5a, 5b, 6, 6.1, 6.2, 6. 3). On the basis of previous superficial prospecting - exploration works was created idea that these ore bodies are separate bodies, while further prospecting - exploration works, especially drillings, have confirmed continuity in depth as a single ore body, separated in blocks by faults of the multiple steps.
Exploitation of Chromite Ore in Vlahna first commenced in 1986.
From 1986 to 1996, production resulted in 45 000 ton.
Prior to 1990, about 2.3 million tons of chromite ore reserves were discovered in this ore field.
